Traveling Spoon

Ivania and Carlos enjoy cooking together and learned to cook traditional family recipes from their mothers. They often watch cooking shows on TV and re-create their favorite dishes for friends and family. They are very happy to share traditional Chilean flavors so travelers can enjoy their diversity in food and culture. They feel the happiest when people leave their home with a full belly and a smile on their face and are excited to share this happiness with travelers! Ivania and Carlos live in a warmly decorated home close to the famous Providencia neighborhood in downtown Santiago. Carlos is an architect and you can tell that by the thoughtful detailing in their apartment! While you sip on your welcome drink, Ivania and Carlos will introduce you to their food and culture, and then later you will join them at the dining table for an authentic meal. Some of the dishes you might enjoy are goat cheese, chili and olives with homemade sourdough bread, seaweed ceviche, risotto of mote (wheat) with goat cheese and tender meat. End your meal on a sweet note with some caramel semolina. If you book a cooking experience, join Ivania and Carlos in their small kitchen for a hands-on cooking class where you will learn to prepare two to three authentic homemade Chilean dishes. The cooking portion of the experience will last for one to two hours, after which you will enjoy the meal you helped to prepare at their dining table. Ivania and Carlos also offer and optional market tour add-on of La Vega Central market, Santiago's main market that sells a wide variety of products and fresh fruit and vegetables from the Chilean Central Valley.

Santiago

Santiago is a huge city of nearly five million inhabitants surrounded by immense Andean peaks creating a spectacular backdrop. The city centre is quite manageable with a collection of wide avenues, squares and parks all laid out in a grid pattern. Chile has a distinctly European flavour and Santiago will bring this home to you as you visit the churches, monuments and museums all designed in a certain familiar style.
