Chiang Khong Chiang Khong Chiang Khong is village by the river in the Chiang Rai Province of Northern Thailand. The village is a pit stop for travelers crossing the Mekong River to Laos. In AD 701, Chiang Khong was part of the small city-state founded by King Mahathai. Juon, as it was originally called was occupied by the Siamese in the 1880s. Chiang Khong extended to the Yunnan Province in China until the French turned Mekong’s northern bank into French Indochina a decade later. Present-day Chiang Khong is a village with a busy market, many temples and a popular Giant Catfish festival held annually every April. A friendship bridge was built in 2013 to join the Laos and Thailand border.
Pakbeng
Vang Vieng Vang Vieng A four-hour car ride (or six-hour bus ride) north from Vientiane, this town is a center for karstic geologic formations. Nearly vertical limestone cliffs and spires jut up from the floor of a bucolic river valley that lies about 100 mi/160 km north of the capital. The setting is stunning, but despite its natural beauty, visitors will either love or hate Vang Vieng. For the backpacking fraternity it is simply heaven; for the cultural traveler it is an example of how damaging tourism can be to local culture. The once-sleepy riverside town, perfectly located to break up the journey between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, is overrun with cheap guesthouses, bars and restaurants serving Western food. All the Western comforts and support mechanisms are there—so much for adventure travel. As a result, backpackers settle in Vang Vieng for weeks at a time doing very little but lying around watching TV, getting stoned or tubing down the river. Their presence has also encouraged locals to start dealing drugs, and the town has a reputation for the easy availability of opium and amphetamines. Tubing trips along the Nam Song river are popular, but be aware that the current is very fast in places—inexperienced swimmers have drowned on these trips. Check river conditions locally before signing up for any trip. Several spectacular caverns (some developed, some not) are within a few hours' walk from town.	Destination Guide
Halong Bay (Hanoi) Halong Bay (Hanoi) Meaning “Bay of the Descending Dragon,” Halong Bay’s water is calm and undisturbed despite the jutting limestone mountains that soar out of the water and toward the sky. As if a tail of a Dragon plunged into the earth, the mountains are craggy, sharp, and barren, and are dotted with thousands of small caves of various depths and heights. Luang Prabang Luang Prabang Luang Prabang is the crown jewel of Laos and perhaps the best preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The ancient capital of the former Kingdom Lan Xang, it is nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan rivers, and is an enchanting and charming destination. The town is adorned with gilded temples on nearly every street corner and saffron robed monks strolling through the quiet city center, giving it a unique charm of bygone days and rich cultural heritage. Vientiane Vientiane While visiting Vientiane, you’ll delight in the legendary Lao hospitality and the country’s unspoiled beauty. Until recently, Laos was forbidden to foreign travelers. Vientiane, capital of Laos, is busy and hectic in comparison to the rest of the country, but it is quiet compared with any other capital city in Asia. Vientiane, as are the other major city of Laos, is situated on the Mekong River, which forms the lifeline of the country. Vientiane’s major attractions are the serene Buddhist monasteries that dominate the city streets. The city has kept its timeless charm with tree-lined avenues, brightly painted temples and quaint French architecture. Explore Wat Si Saket. Built in 1818, it is the city’s oldest temple and features over 6,800 Buddha images, which are all ritually cleansed at the time of the Lao New Year. Hophrakeo, once the royal temple of Lao monarchy, was built in 1565 and has been used as a museum since 1970. The main structure, which originally housed Prakeo, the Emerald Buddha, now contains some of the finest Buddhist sculpture and artifacts found in the country. Special displays include antique brass drums and palm leaf manuscripts. Also visit the most famous landmark of Vientiane, the soaring stupa Pha That Luang (Royal Stupa), which was constructed in 1566 by King Setthatirat, founder of the Vientiane capital. Hanoi Hanoi Hanoi is a city with a history that dates back to the 7th century. In 1954 Hanoi was declared the capital of the Democratic Republic of North Vietnam, and in 1976, following the Vietnam War, it became the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This political history has made Hanoi one of the country's most fascinating cities to explore. The most renowned of all the monuments is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. It is dedicated to Vietnam's most well-respected President, who in 1945, led his country to independence. Da Nang Da Nang Da Nang is on the threshold of becoming a major destination for tourists from Europe, Australia and the United States, thanks to some unique attractions, spectacular scenery and the friendliness of the locals. The French influence is evident in Da Nang's provincial character which dates back to the 19th century, with later history wrought by war. It was here on the coast that the first U.S. combat troops landed on March 8, 1965. As the war progressed, Da Nang’s runway was expanded to become the largest in all of Southeast Asia. Da Nang fell to the Viet Cong in March 1975; this signified South Vietnam's defeat in the war. Among the city's numerous attractions is the much-touted Cham Museum, housing close to 300 Cham sculptures. Here history lovers get a glimpse into a very powerful era of Vietnam's past. Da Nang, however, may be most familiar to Americans who watched the movie Good Morning Vietnam and the popular television series China Beach - which immortalized a popular R&R GI resort of the Vietnam War. Nha Trang Nha Trang The main attractions of the coastal town of Nha Trang’s are its white sandy beaches, deserted islands and backdrop of rolling, verdant mountains. It is quite possibly Vietnam’s closest answer to a developed tropical resort. The Nha Trang area offers the best year-round weather in Vietnam; its clear waters and four miles of clean, uncrowded beaches encourage swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is often referred to as Vietnam’s jewel and the Pearl of the Orient. Located in south Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is the country’s largest city, with more than six million people and over one million motorbikes. Under the current regime the city is once more being rebuilt. Whole blocks are disappearing, being replaced by concrete, steel and glass structures. Central Saigon, which is still the official name for the city center, shows evidence of the French colonial city, with wide, tree-lined boulevards, sidewalk cafés and elegant French architecture. The city is divided into two sections: Saigon, the municipal and historical district, and Cholon (Chinatown), where the entrepreneurial talent and private funds are concentrated. Cholon appears to be the most populated and in general the most vigorous part of Ho Chi Minh City. It is well worth a visit for its bustle and activity and its pagodas, which are reputed to be the finest in the whole city.	Destination Guide
Phnom Penh Phnom Penh Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia and situated at the confluence of three rivers, the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Bassac. Considered the gateway to this exotic country, everything of interest can be found within its reach – the temples of Angkor, the beaches to the south and the ethnic minorities and jungles of the north. Being the hub of the country, the city is filled cultural and historic attractions, such as national museums, monuments and the Silver Pagoda. The Silver Pagoda is probably the city’s most visited pagoda because of its vast display of historical objects. There are also over 5000 silver tiles which cover the floor. Siem Reap Siem Reap The small provincial capital of Siem Reap stretches along the Siem Reap river – surrounded by rice paddies and serving as the gateway to centuries-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Angkor Archaeological Park contains numerous temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srey and legendary Angkor Wat. Those visiting the site stay in Siem Reap. Experience some local flavor, attend a dance performance, or shop in some local craft shops. Angkor Wat’s artistic and archaeological significance rivals the Pyramids in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru and the Taj Mahal in India. Unspoiled by over-development, many areas of the area are possible to explore away from crowds. Its three-tiered massive pyramid is crowned by five beehive-like towers on the ground. Bangkok Bangkok Bangkok is chief port capital of Thailand and one of the most important cities in Southeast Asia. It is the epitome of the country's kaleidoscopic blend of old and new. It is an expression of Thai respect for tradition coupled with their vibrant involvement with modern progress. Rama I built the walled Grand Palace, which contains Temple of the Emerald Buddha. During the 19th century, Bangkok was known as the Venice of the East because of its many canals, which served as streets and commercial thoroughfares. Houses perched along the banks of the remaining canals are still common sight. Some of Bangkok’s most distinctive features are the approximately 400 Buddhist temples, known as wats. Local Flights
All local flights are included in the cost of your tour unless otherwise noted. It is important that we have your passport information at the time of booking in order to process these tickets. Internal flight tickets are issued locally and will be given to you prior to the flight departure.
