Providenciales
Providenciales
As one of the most developed islands in the Turks & Caicos, Providenciales has myriad activities for lovers of leisure and beaches. The beaches of Providenciales are uniquely soft-sanded and white, because the island originated in coral rather than the atypical volcanic origin most islands have. Grace Bay Beach is world renown for being the most serene, perfect swim and lounge spot, and Chalk Sound National Park, composed of a shallow lagoon with rocky, green islets and aquamarine water, is considered best for kayaking. Some of the beaches on Providenciales, such as Turtle Tail, have such shallow water that one could easily walk to small islands just offshore. Kite-boarders flock to Long Bay Beach and the Bight Beach; go east for half of a mile from here to access the popular White House Reef snorkeling site. Other watersports activities are readily available, such as skiff boating, jet skiing, glass bottom boat tours and parasailing.
On land, catch pretty views and visit 18th-20th century rock carvings on Sapodilla Hill, or explore the West Harbour Bluff, finding a small isolated beach and remains of pirate carvnings. For a taste of the locally brewed beer (and the only brewery in Turks & Caicos), visit the Turks Head Microbrewery at Industrial Park. At Northwest Point, relax and explore for an afternoon of shell collecting. The island also features an 18-hole golf course, spas and many luxury shopping opportunities.
